End of the Year 2019

End of the Year 2019
I know it's a bit early to call the end of the year, but I wanted to touch base with everyone since I have Saturnalia coming up soon and I'll be busy with my friends for a week or so.

It's been a hard year. I probably made it harder than it needed to be. Some of the things that happened, well, I could have handled it better.

But hey, everything's still standing, and slowly but surely we're getting our footing on various things. Please continue to bring in suggestions.

On a few points that you guys haven't been updated on as of yet:

I recently started hosting a friend of the SGI community's site, LameGuy64—a guy from the Philippines whose a PS1 homebrew dev and been a good friend to the community

http://lameguy64.tk/?page=news&year=2019#post-14

Here's the article on his site. I recommend everyone check him out, he's quite the neat guy.

Theme color palette changes: This is on hold until after the holidays, but assuming all goes well, I'll be looking at it soon.

We have some new emotes likely to come in soon from CB_HK to replace Pentium's older 8-bit style. I of course am grateful Pentium granted me rights to the emotes, but we needed a little bump in quality.

With my departure from my job, I'm currently starting a career as a novelist. I do not want to abuse my position to advertise my fantasy works though. If you're interested, you can PM me and I'll send you a link to the site I setup. I realize, after all, fantasy ain't everyone's taste. We're here for computers after all. But the point is, I'm working behind the scenes on some concepts, including a few ditched concepts from previous ideas.

I'm currently curious if there's any categories you're chomping at the bit for me to add? I've considered axing a few or splitting them out a bit. Any ideas? The x86 one is staying for the few people who have VWS systems.

There won't be a New Years viewing party likely. It wasn't very popular last year and the service I used (rabb.it) went down earlier this year, and the proposed replacement, Kast, is beyond retarded.

If you guys got any end of the year things you want to say, jokes, roasts, criticisms, etc, by all means, this is the place.

RE: End of the Year 2019
Definitely feel like I want to contribute more.

I don't mean money, though I'll send some in a bit since I just noticed the contribution area.

I mean that besides the videos for the 3D applications that I make for fun, is more informative vids for the Irix OS usage.

Definitely will arrive at a point where I'll test run and do a how to set up a way to network Windows and Irix connections for file transfers.

Maybe just do a whole "How to get your Irix on the web, connected to other Irix, connected to Windows" video.

Even though there are many vids on the subjects of Linux and Unix I think it may be fun doing a general breakdown of most used functions with the Irix terminal commands.

Stuff like Tar and Gunzip as well as making a script that will run multiple commands and make it executable.
It might seem redundant but I think it would be good just to show its usage in Irix.

I was looking at a VGA video signal recorder so that I don't have to use my phone to record the desktop anymore and could get a direct vid from the VGA connector.
Found one that is a little pricy $200+ but I like doing it enough to make the investment.

Anyways, I am glad the site is still ticking.

I do wonder, did the D1 project stop development?

I remember seeing the possible chips being prototyped.

RE: End of the Year 2019
So I'm not a spokesperson for Dodoid's little D1, but AFAIK, they've run into software issues regarding getting low-latency comms between the card and the SGI. A huge side effect was the fact that the card he reverse engineered is only 10mbit. Therefore, even Remote X is pretty... laggy on apps like Firefox.

I think that you doing more SGI stuff on youtube is always good, you and Irinikus are both quite good at explaining those systems.

Contributions wherever people can is great, after all.
