Micropolis (SimCity) for IRIX - necron2600 - 02-26-2019

This was posted to Nekochan before, but was not archived.  Reposting here to keep it around.

This does compile for mips3 too.

If anyone wants the original SimCity for Unix (SunOS, Solaris, IRIX) it's available from archive.org:

It will only run for 5 minutes in "demo mode" without a license, but it's kind of neat to see the original too.

There's actually a version of SimCity for IRIX floating around.  It needed something ridiculous like a FlexLM license or something and I never messed with it any further.

Actually, it uses ÉlanLM. And I believe it's a COFF binary so unless you've got a system running IRIX 5.3 or older it's not going to work.

I tried it today, even though I knew it was not going to work, in my Octane.
The wikipedia article got my head scratching.

It's that old, really.

The license is not FLEXlm, but Élan License Manager. I think I can deal with that (AutoCAD on IRIX uses it too), I'll give it a shot sometime.

COFF binaries are not compatible with IRIX versions post 5.3 -- IRIX used COFF because ELF didn't exist back then.
