2x1ghz O350 modified for V12 install. -

Hey Guys,
Here is how to modify a 2x1ghz IP module so you can install a V10/V12 in an O350. This only works with the 2x1ghz and not the 4x1ghz.
IP before mods.
IP with fan cage removed. You can see the unused space that allows us to move the IP fans back.
Cage before cutting. I am using an old 4x1ghz cage I had. The first cut is made 4 1/8" from the front.
The next step is to drill out the rivets and to cut the sides from the outlet half.
Now you have to trim the top down to 1/2" to use it as a mounting flange to reassemble the cage. You have to trim off the bottom of the fan opening to make clearance from the PCB. Remember to leave the little slots for the fan cage to go back on. On reassembly you will put a thin strip of foam to seal the fan cage to the PCB.
You can now reassemble the cage by slipping the outlet part over top of the main cage. Now you use the existing holes as guides to drill for the rivets. You now pop rivet everything back together.
Finished assembly with the V12 installed. The V12 only needs the sheet metal mods as the heatsink fits as is.
You add the GFX fan underneath like my V10/V12 install instructions here.

Thanks! The three fans on the IP node make this machine run very cool. Probably my favorite O350 hack.

I'm sure most of us know what an SGI guru mopar5150 is. I bought my 2 Onyx4's from him and he packed them up in a manner that would easily have survived WWIII. 😀
