For those who do not know what I'm talking about, you can access, post and use the forums in a limited fashion from your SGI.
http://forums.irixnet.org/classic/
You must be logged in, and you can't use Netscape Navigator but you can use Mozilla 1.0, Firefox as low as 2.x, and most versions of Netsurf I tried do work.
Dillo, unfortunately, didn't work. But this is the best we can do currently.
The new functionalities are the ability to create a new thread, simply by typing the subject and post info into the form at the bottom of every forum, and the ability to create new PM threads.
I am proud to also tell you about our main web dev that I hired:

Dillo is such a pain in the butt. It's good for very simple stuff, and that's it. Awesome work, I'll have to check it out from my Octane!

You'll need to make sure the gateway is enabled from your profile tunables. It won't let you in if you're not enabling it.

Yeah. And it's FOSS -- so anyone with basic web dev skills can conceivably make it part of their own forum.

I might finally get my SGI up a running again by late Nov/Dec.
Getting a new place and can set up my SGI there in a more long term fashion.
Been about two years since I used them regularly, though I did fire up the Octane in April and it was working normally.
I will try this classic browse mode when I get it going again.

I made an honest effort to port Dillo to IRIX using MIPSPro 7.4.4 but yeah, I had to give up, too much of a pain in the butt. Looks like no one else is working on it either; as the last stable release was six years ago. People are still using it and the mailing list is still occasionally active.

yeah, better to go for Netsurf as a lightweight option. We just need a Motif or FLTK frontend
