Dual head SGI + PS/2 Inquries - Equinox - 04-20-2020

Hello once more!  I continue my quest to have a working SGI Octane workstation. I have two Octance2 workstations right now, both with Odyssey V6 graphics.  If I am going to use any computer with any consistency, I strongly prefer it to support dual monitors.  Can/should I try to slot both V6 GPUs into one Octane?  I saw dual GPU Octane configurations mentioned in an SGI product guide, but only in the context of "dual seat" deployments where two users are on the same machine simultaneously. I also remember someone with dual V12's on Nekochan (would really like to see images of that system again if they're kicking around, it was a beast!)  Is it a better idea to wait for the dual DVI adapter to show up on eBay instead?  I'm not even sure how I'd mount the second V6 in the XIO carrier.

I would also like to use a fairly modern USB keyboard with my Octane -- are there any active PS2 to USB adapters that are known to work nicely with the SGIs?

Cheers!

Hello!

Without a dual VPro carrier, it would be very difficult to mount the second V6 into a single Octane. I believe there was some discussion around here at one point about modding single carriers for it, but I'm not sure anyone was successful.

In my experience, the Octane only recognizes USB devices with adapters if the keyboard/mouse support the PS/2 protocol. This does rule out a lot of very modern peripherals, but most devices from the transition period between PS/2 and USB peripherals will work fine.
