It's a tiny incandescent bulb, because white/green/blue LEDs were not common when this machine was built. Most people install colored LEDs instead.

I'm sure you can still buy the required small incandescent bulbs, to keep your machine original.

If you have a soldering iron and some solder you can fix it yourself, it takes 15min. Just buy whatever colour LED's you want, resistors to go with your LED of choice and solder away.

Sure you can likely, but the heat, life and color of an incandescent is bad, compared to an LED.

My machine still has the bulbs and it has a warm color that you just won’t get with an LED.

I actually like the warm yellowish glow of the incandescents, on the ocatne 2 it goes well with the orange font.
What is the reason for the resister? I watched Rene Rebe's video and it appears the voltage is 5 volts. Wouldn't an LED rated for 4-6 volts (common 3mm used for RC cars) be a drop in replacement?

Most LEDs are 3v which is the reason for the resistor. I just completed this mod on my octane, here are some photos:

Yo Guys,
Just a reminder, I now have compatible OEM-Like NOS Incandescent Lightbar bulbs, offered either as a rebuild service or you can take a chance and buy just the bulbs from me, if you want, and do it yourself.
This service is about restoring your Octane lightbar with REAL incandescents, back to they way it used to look, as it came out of the box. Check it out if you're interested!
