RE: Commercial Software Request Megathread - BackPlaner - 05-28-2023

Just bumping my old request for a 3DGO IRIX license or demo->full hack of some kind?
I'm still holding out in hope of someday finding such a grail...

Thanks!

do you have a link for this?

I asked about this on Nekochan so very long ago but nobody had a real idea about its availability. Anybody remember Diver (or Digital Image and Video Encoder/Reformatter)? I remember using it years ago as a quick batch conversion program for images.

Another hope, I see that Houdini (version 6.5?) is available in some places, but is there a way to get Prisms, it's precursor, in a working form? I miss that Klingon 3D package.

Where is one supposed to upload some old UNIX applications? Is there any FTP we can upload some things for preservation?

RE: Commercial Software Request Megathread - Raion - 12-08-2023

You can use archive.org. I want to preserve software but the issue is that we have some people who are trolls who would send pirate software reports to say, Autodesk or something. The issue of software preservation is often intertwined with cracks, warez and more and I can't sanction that openly in the US and keep DMCA safe harbor provisions. The second I allow people to share software publicly or cracks I am putting the entire site at risk of lawsuits and seizure by the feds.

It's understandable, thank you. I will upload what i can to archive and will post here.

I understand Raion's concerns about any legal issues, but the simple fact is that none of the companies who ever sold software for IRIX give any sort of a crap about any of it anymore. If they did, then why I'm I not in jail? I've had all my IRIX software available for download on my website, mostly with working licenses for decades. Download whatever you want from my website, and I absolve Raion and irix net dot org from any legal or otherwise consequences:

That's fine. I just have to be cautious. Hell, Nintendo took down sites for the crime of sending out 30-40 year old Famicom titles that have never been republished.

I understand that entirely, and I don't want to put this forum at risk in any way, but as I'm so fond of pointing out, if you contact any of these software manufacturers and ask them to sell you a version of their product that runs on IRIX, generally speaking, they will not understand what you are asking about (believe me, I've tried!), or else they'll just hang up on you. So to me, and yeah, I know this is not 'legally' correct, but as far as I'm concerned, it's freeware now. And if their lawyers want to come after me, fine, I'm just sitting right here waiting for them. Tongue

RE: Commercial Software Request Megathread - Raion - 01-07-2024

I think our policy is a massive upgrade as I don't care what people share behind closed doors and we also allow sale of original software and pre installed systems, whereas that was defacto banned in Nekochan.
