Octane 2 PROM flash update
Installed the V12 gfx and screen freezes on "System coming up".  Found out my PROM version is 4.12, and it appears I need 4.5 or later.  Where can I find PROM 4.5?

The Octane2's prom is automatically flashed when IRIX is installed. Which version of IRIX 6.5 are you running?

You probably need the XBOW version 1.3 or later. What are you currently running for XBOW version?

RE: Octane 2 PROM flash update
IRIX Version 6.5.28 and XBOW 1.4. I just installed a new to me Front plane (XBOW1.4) however my current PROM version is only 4.12.

Im using the newer Motherboard (silver handle with 8gig RAM support), Cherokee PS. When I performed a full diagnostic from the PROM maintenance menu, it did say Odessy is not support with the PROM tools.

Would the 6.5.28 overlay 1 of 3 contain the updated PROM? I was wondering if I ran INST om the PROM/Maintenance/ mini boot menu and ran the installation tools if I can update the prom from there.

RE: Octane 2 PROM flash update
Looks like I need Patch 4103 that is for upgrading to v10 and v12 and upgrades the prom to 4.5. Search continues for this patch.

You realize that 4.12 is newer than 4.5, right?

RE: Octane 2 PROM flash update
Are you sure that it’s not just a driver problem? What graphics hardware were you running prior to installing the V12?

From your signature, it appears that you were running MXE graphics, the setup that you have in IRIX will therefore not support the V12, so you will have to install the IRIX Odyssey driver for the V12.

RE: Octane 2 PROM flash update
Irinikus is correct, without the correct drivers it won't get past the "system is coming up' stage. There is a way to install the correct drivers but I just installed IRIX fresh. Ian Mapleson had a 'how to' somewhere to upgrade to the VPro drivers but I can't find it...

If you don't mind giving it a go you could try and boot into a mini root and

keep *
install fresh

See if that helps.

RE: Octane 2 PROM flash update
Irinikis, your correct, the system was a MXE previously with the Digital video installed.

JacquesT, this is exactly what is happening, the system 'freezes' or hangs on "System is coming up" I have a spare hard drive that I will reinstall IRIX with the V12 card installed and see if this happens.

Jan-Jaap, I never thought 4.12 was newer than 4.5. When I invoke "version" from the Arc Prom promt, It says November 15, 2001. Not sure when PROM 4.5 was released, before or after.

I am going to reinsall IRIX and let you all know if it fixed the problem
