Sun SPARC server without OS. Good deal ?
Hi ! I 
can have a sun's server based on sparc architecture but unfortunately, it's sold without any OS on harddrive. Does Solaris SPARC is available for free ? I think it originally run solaris 8 or 9.

Solaris 10 and 11.4 are free for "non-production use", otherwise you are expected to buy a support contract.

Systems of this age usually cannot run 11.4 so you will need Solaris 10.

Hi, it's a V490 with 4*1.5GHz SPARC Processors, and 16GB of Ram. There two other to be buy here if someone is interested Smile

The V490 are pretty fast SPARCs, but they are really servers, not suitable for an office environment. They are very loud. If you plan to buy the machine, maybe ask about the number of CPUs. The UltraSPARC IV is a dual core CPU, so 4 physical CPUs installed will actually get you 8 cores.

Some BSDs and maybe even Linux should also work on UltraSPARC if Solaris is not an option for some reason.

All the V490s that I have had required 208V+ to turn on. They would not power up on 120V.
