Hey non linear video editing application users,
I'm using Media Illusion for while now and although this is my first professional video editing software and there are no information or how to's anywhere in the internet, just the official manuals, I somehow get along with it.
So, the thing is that my "vault" and project data, where tenthousends of single frames are stored, are on an external drive. At first they are in TIF format, then I let Media Illusion import them, from external disk to the same external disk. Although the source tif images and the target vault directory are on the external hard disk, my internal Irix disk rattles at every single frames that is imported.
I am just wondering. Should'nt my Octane just read the frames from the external drive into the RAM, process it, and spit it out on the external drive again? What has the internal OS drive to do with it? I want to use an external SCSI to IDE bridge with SSDs in the future, but this thing foils the advantages a bit.
I looked at the help files of Media Illusion and parallax, and there are some enviroment variables that can be used, but I cannot quite figure it out :s
Here is the helpfile:
Quote:Illusion/Matador Environment Variables
When Illusion starts, it checks it's environment for the existence of various environment variables. It's behaviour (at run time) can therefore be modified.
Introduction to Unix Environment Variables
To use environment variables for Illusion
* Open a unix shell (toolchest/desktop/New Unix Shell)
* Set environment variable(s)
* Start Illusion in the same shell
Environment Variables
ILLUSION_ROOT Set the location for Media Illusion's base (root) directory. The default is /var/avid/illusion.
ILLUSION_DATA Set the location for Media Illusion's data directory. The default is /var/avid/illusion/data (or $ILLUSION_ROOT/data).
PARALLAX_ROOT Set the location for the general (parallax) base directory. The default is /var/avid/parallax.
PARALLAX_DATA Set the location for the general (parallax) data directory. The default is /var/avid/parallax/data (or $PARALLAX_ROOT/data).
MATADOR_ROOT Set the location for Matador's base (root) directory. The default is /var/avid/matador.
MATADOR_DATA Set the location for Matador's data directory. The default is /var/avid/matador/data (or $MATADOR_ROOT/data)
The above environment variables are used when defining a client/server configuration.
AVID_LICENSE_FILE Set the path and file Illusion looks for a FlexLM license. Default is /var/avid/admin/license.dat
ILLUSION_MONITOR_REFRESH_RATE Specify refresh rate on systems which report the wrong value.
Onyx systems are known to do this sometimes.
PARALLAX_BROKEN_FILE_DIRECTORY Used to specify the directory used for moved 'bad' (broken) Illusion database files. These files contain errors. Default is /var/avid/illusion/data/bad_files.
ILLUSION_PAINT_PROGRAM Program to call instead of Matador. The 'real' program should still be Matador but this allows customisation (e.g. pre/post Matador processing).
ILLUSION_NEW_CLIP_TEMPLATES_FILE Set to a file containing new clip templates. Illusion will read, write and display templates from this file. Default is /var/avid/illusion/data/new_clip_templates.
DISABLE_LIVE_VIDEO To disable live video in/out, set to 1.
ILLUSION_ENABLE_OCTANE_LIVE_OUT_ADJUST Live Video output to a video monitor from the screen is offset incorrectly on certain versions of IRIX on the Octane. This enables a workaround to this SGI Octane bug.
ILLUSION_OCTANE_LIVE_OUT_OFFSET Live Video output to a video monitor from the screen is offset incorrectly on certain versions of IRIX on the Octane.
This allows one to set the number of lines (positive or negative) to correct for.
PARALLAX_SWAP_OMF_FIELDS See OMF section
Workaround for interlacing problems when importing/exporting OMF media. Set to "r" to swap fields on reading, "w" to swap on writing, or "rw" for both.
ILLUSION_DONT_USE_GPI The GPI is not enabled yet on the XTHD board. This allows one to grab and drop video with VLAN control (ie. list mode) using this card.
We cannot guarantee frame accuracy with this method
OCTANE_WARN_ON_LIVE_VIDEO Enables warnings to a dialog box when using the clip cinema player.
ILLUSION_NEW_FILTER_FUDGE There is a problem with the crop on 2D transform and some of the filters, setting this environment can fix the problem.
ILLUSION_GPI_TRIGGER The DIVO has two GPI inputs provided on both GPI connectors. Illusion uses GPI input 1 by default. This can be overridden by setting this system variable.
