Intermittent mouse issues
Has anyone had any issues with their mouse not working unless you unplug it and plug it back in after logging in?
Whenever I get to the login screen the mouse is unresponsive. I have to login, wait for the desktop to load and then unplug the mouse for about 15 seconds before plugging it back in. Then the mouse will start working with no issues.
I’ve ruled out that this is a hardware issue with the mouse since it works perfectly on other machines. Additionally the port appears to be working correctly after I remove and reinstall the mouse. No blown fuses either. This issue is on a Crimson using a PS/2 adapter. It’s also a new issue that just started.
I’m thinking this is an IRIX issue and it’s not recognizing the mouse initially or it’s waiting for another input device.
Anyone have any thoughts?

RE: Intermittent mouse issues
From a recent discussion,
http://forums.irix.cc/thread-617.html
Probably a compatibility issue with the PS/2 adapter or the mouse sending wrong codes to the controller?
Similar issues can be expected with certain types of keyboards.

Cheers!

Thanks for the reply.
The issue is that I’m using an SGI keyboard and mouse. Both of which were working perfectly before. I’m also using a custom PS/2 adapter that’s designed for use with the Indigo and Crimson. It’s a full break out board. Zero issues with the keyboard. And zero issues with the mouse when it’s recognized.

RE: Intermittent mouse issues
My bad, I totally missed the Crimson bit. People were reporting on the other thread that unplugging/plugging the mouse would reinstate function. I somehow assumed both issues might be related.

No worries! I appreciate your reply either way.
