I'd really like to hear about the role "ivelegacy" played in all this, because after all the last account he used on the Nekochan forum was called "shutitalldown". Just a coincidence?

Also did anyone reach out to Pete or the Mods and asked for a time frame when we can expect Nekochan to be back. Because honestly, does anybody on irix.cc really believe all information on Nekochan that was built up over 15 years can be rebuild here in time?

Nah, ive doesn't have any power over anything or anybody, let alone the ability to take down an entire website. He's just a random forum troll with no sense for when to pack it in.

I wanted something a little more formal and thus I removed the original topic. While I have my own personal reservations about Nekochan, I don't also want to kick the people behind it while they're down, so I think it was better to have a formal post without other people's opinions.

As for archiving, go right ahead? There wasn't anything in the original thread I had to hide - it just was a pain in the ass to splice up topics so I just deleted the thread, and did a formal post. I felt my first topic on it wasn't super professional.

Conspiracy and conjecture. All we know is that Nekonoko took the site offline for alleged GPDR compliance. I doubt Carlo had anything to do with it, and even after Carlo stalking me, harassing me, and doing pretty nasty things, I still agreed with Dodoid to put his "Down the Bunker" site up here for diplomatic reasons. Nope. I'm not on what I'd call good terms with the European mods of Nekochan - they were quite pissed at my criticism of their handling of dozens of issues, including one time where they got mad because I called a user out for being openly socialist when I've lost family. As for the American mods, I'm only on okay terms with VenomousPinecone, and I've none of their contact info. I also don't have a twitter or any way to reach out to Nekonoko though I was an active donator on Nekochan and, AFAIK, he and I didn't have any beef.

We're focusing on the long term and I'm going full steam ahead assuming that Nekochan is lost for good. I assume Pete took it offline because he's tired of dealing with it and so was everyone else - and I'm not going to say anymore on that particular topic because I don't want that to be the official view of the site.

Prior to 25th May the GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) was a directive and not so much a law. Now, this is a European based law, but any company can be subject if they trade with European companies or people. So after the 25th it now becomes law, and everyone is running around like headless chickens, and to be honest, it's just a bit of hysteria and no need to panic.

Some may recall that Ivelegacy had all posts and information removed from the Nekochan site, which caused a lot of issues with thread flows, but legacy must have played some good cards and possibly quoted the directive (at that time) to Pete to have this done (who knows the actual events).

You may notice also, that you are all receiving emails from sites you signed up to years ago asking you to 'opt-in' to mailing lists or maybe they are sending you new contracts to agree to etc. This is all because anyone who holds any data on you can be liable and MUST protect the individuals privacy.

It doesn't stop there either, if you use a third party in your organization, you must also ensure they have an agreement that they are also GDPR compliant and so on all the way down the chain.

It is quite possible that legacy has done it again with threats, although, not sure why this time, but lets not forget that Pete went through a problem in the early days of Neko regarding software licences, piracy etc, so maybe he is just being cautious and thinking about last time.

All that GPDR means to me is that I've begun drafting a Data Handling Policy here:

But that's more for informational, than for GPDR. It's unenforceable as we're located in the US. If anyone has any questions or suggestions for the policy, let us know. I'm probably going to modify it greatly from it's current form, once we introduce log rotation and deletion routines on the servers.

The GDPR affects anyone who runs a business or website that collects or processes information about citizens who live in the European Union (EU). The GDPR can affect you no matter what country you live in. If you collect information from EU citizens, process orders from them, or if they visit your website, at least some parts of the GDPR will apply to you. It’s obvious that the GDPR has been drafted with the intention of catching overseas companies, individuals, and other entities that are not complying with it.

And what's the EU going to do? Fine me an unenforceable fine? The EU's jurisdiction doesnt reach to the US. And the US isn't going to extradite me, and the EU can't take me to court because the GPDR is not US law.

Yeah, I know all about legalese with this and I'm not concerned whatsoever. We'll already destroy as much data as we can, but there's no way they'll be able to enforce this and we have no plans to follow it to the letter.

It's not you they're going to go after. It's websites and hosting providers and everyone else involved who <I>does</I> have a concrete financial stake in doing business with people in EU nations.

Well exactly, I cannot find any information on what can be done to people operating a site outside the EU and not doing actual physical business?

Maybe the thought police will come and smash your computer..
