Hi!

Relatively new to IRIX since I have only fiddled around with my Octane a handful of times since I got it two years ago.
I'm trying to install StudioPaint 9.5 this evening but I'm not getting this license file thing...

It would be greatly appreciated if someone could explain the process to me.
I have generated the aw.dat using the comments in the aw.dat.template file from the aw-license-vitamines.tar archive.

So now what do I do? This would be a great addition to the wiki. Explain the IRIX License Manager, the difference between all the license file types and how it works.

edit the template with your hostid (run lmhostid to see what it is)
run the keygen
put the generated aw.dat file in /var/flexlm
start program

usually these software packages come with some sort of encryption strings (that are tied to only one hostid) - one would input the strings via License Manager, and License manager would then generate they key that goes into the license file. With the keygen we are bypassing the license manager, no need to ever use it unless you have an actual vendor supplied crypto strings for some software for your particular hostid

Thanks gijoe77, that's the files that I have. I'm not sure what to do after I generate the aw.dat file, that's where I get stuck.

EDIT: Sorry, I figured it out. I blame the late hour here and the wind tunnel noise from the Octane next to me
