Implications of KYC on what IRIXNet can host
Due to a recent US Department of Commerce rule requiring KYC for cloud users, I may be soon forced to take down all non FOSS commercial software from IRIXNet's servers.

Let me explain. KYC or Know Your Customer means they would require my own legal personal information and keep that on file in order to subpoena me for copyright claims and such. I am unwilling to take that kind of risk, so I am watching the KYC rule quite nervously. I will discontinue all commerical software downloads on our servers and restructure our systems if such a rule passes. Additionally, I will not be able to allow cracks or commercial software licenses to be passed from user to user, so resources like the "commercial software request thread" will be removed permanently if this rule comes up.

This will not change IRIXNet fundamentally, but I have to minimize my risk and keep my nose clean. I refuse to put myself in the line of fire for that.

I'm the system admin of this site. Private security technician, licensed locksmith, hack of a c developer and vintage computer enthusiast.

Technical problems should be sent my way.

Remember that this is only public facing stuff. They haven't decided to go after our precious private conversations...yet. Plenty of users have commercial software backed up and will most likely let you mirror it if you ask nicely.
