Memory for Indy
Hi,

I am searching for memory for my Indy.
Does the memory needs to be identical sticks?
Can you use both EDO and FPM in Indy? EDO looks to be compatible with FPM - subset.
I found a guy selling 2 x 16MB Nanya and 2 x 16MB LGS for a total of 64 MB. Would it work? I plan to install Irix 5.3.

RE: Memory for Indy
No, you cannot use EDO memory in an Indy. EDO is not "upwards compatible": it uses different RAS timings.
You need true parity FPM (fast page mode) 72-pin SIMMs with a 36-bit organization. The maximum SIMM size supported is 32 MB, for a total max memory size of 256 MB.
I would be surprised if Nanya ever made suitable RAM: the kind you need was made before 2000. Kingston and MemoryX may have suitable memory today.
I would also recommend finding a set of 4 SIMMs identical and made from the same chips (manufacturer and product codes) since they are accessed in groups of 4.

RE: Memory for Indy
Does the Indy require parity FPM or it is just recommended?
