Never seen one of those before before, possibly a test / non-production model?

In hindsight I could have saved myself a lot of effort by starting with the 180Mhz R5k cpu, but I wanted to see how far I could get with the RM5271. I even tried 'single' user boot mode but it spits you into a black screen.

Popping my 6.5 disc in just brings to light how nimble 6.3 is. The spinning Beethoven bust performs the same on a 300Mhz R5k in 6.3 as an R12k 300Mhz in 6.5. That's not bad going! The distort demo is noticeably smoother and more responsive in 6.3.

Thank you for the patches, 3607 is indeed the one required to get the RM5271 working.

And I tried the R12k 300 with 6.3, no go. I think the cut off for support was 270Mhz.

I dug out my software pack that came with my 1600FP adapter...it's got a bunch of 6.3 patch CDs, the latest being September 1999.

can you make images of these patch discs?

I was under the impression you can upgrade the PROM using a 6.5.22+ install disk, then the PROM supports newer CPU'd

I had to do this on a 6.3 PROM so it can actually see the faster CPU, but I did not test a 6.3 install afterwards

Dear Jaques,

Could you please provide a screenshot of your IRIX 6.3 installation with the factory default colour scheme and background, since screenshots of IRIX 6.3 are very hard to find.
