RE: People with multiple SGI systems
By the way...

I keep my Octane plugged all the time. I use it a couple of ours per week and I was thought it's better for the PSU that it's on all the time.
(I'd rather pay more for power than replace the irreplaceable).

Is it better to remove it from power all the time? What's better for the Dallas chip?

The PSU provides standby power all the time, so the battery in the Dallas Timekeeper is not being drained. It starts draining when the machine is no longer on mains power.

I use an HP AF616A 8 Port KVM to switch between the Octane, Octane 2, and Indigo 2. You can pick up the KVM and dongles for dirt cheap on eBay and they work great. You'll just need to grab a couple of 13W3 to VGA cables (I use the W3-606's from cables online). You can also link multiple KVM's together so one of these days I may throw another KVM in the garage to be able to connect to the Onyx that lives out there. I ended up replacing the old noisy KVM fans with brand new 25mm (also noisy) fans. But when you have all three SGI's running it's no big deal. You can also have two monitors, keyboards, and mice so you could run your 23" along with your 1600sw!

When I got my Tezro, I went to plug in a monitor and was rather astonished to see that Tezros don't use 13W3! 😳

RE: People with multiple SGI systems
I have more than 50 systems in my office/cave/lab/whatever with the project to put in shelves and made a sort of expo of it. Covid lockdown left me the time just to start this project .
Electricity bill in Italy are crazy so only one Indy, one O2, one Indigo2 and an Octane2 are always ready to run.
Big Irons are too noisy too hot and too expensive.
As I have splitted the space between Silicon Graphics world and the rest, and the space is always not enough, i'm more and more thoughtful if sell all others systems that include some Apple systems (from Macintosh to Portable to TAM to G5) some C64 and a pair of SUN Voyager.
