At the risk of stating the obvious, the Microline tab widget, which for example Nedit uses, is pretty good.

i wasn't actually aware of Microline, thanks! if Raion is okay with the licensing on that (triple-licensed, MPL 1.1/GPL 2.0/LGPL 2.1) then I think it will do just fine.

Let's dual license the program, with MIT being if the tab widget is dynamically linked, and MPL if static.
