RE: DS1742 NVRAM Chip Replacement
So far the module has been tested with the following machines. All of them were able to initialize the chip themselves:
  • SGI Fuel
  • SGI Tezro
  • SGI O350
  • SGI O300

I switched to a different battery holder as discussed in this thread. It's much better in terms of battery manipulation.

RE: DS1742 NVRAM Chip Replacement
Hi cz7asm,

I got second lot of 2 x DS1742 replacments and put one into Numalink Router.

This worked when dropping in new un-initialised chip (I simply popped new battery into replacement and dropped it straight into Numalink Router, replacing the existing DS1742W-120).

On startup this took on serial id of the L2 Controller and all I then needed to configure was the "brick rackslot" & "date/tz".

Here is the log:

>> telnet 192.168.XXX.XXX
>> Trying 192.168.XXX.XXX...

So happy to report that you can add Numalink Router to SGI Devices that have been tested with replacement DS1742 and this does away with need for complicated Dallas swapping process to get around Numalink Serial Security.

Cheers from Oz,
