Musical Instruments?
Do you play any? I have played a bunch.

In band in middle/high school I was the first chair Horn player. If you call it the uhh, erroneous name in English for it (It's actually from Deutschland, not the country that thinks too highly of its cuisine and wine Tongue) expect me to launch into an angry rant about how I was bullied for having an instrument almost as large as me.

I also learned the trumpet and cornet. I like both, but I generally prefer either a C trumpet or a Bb Cornet, I do not prefer the "Concert" trumpet because of its super bold sound. You may be saying to yourself "Raion, a C trumpet is just transposed" but that's not quite it. A C trumpet has a different quality to it usually, a different timbre.

Unfortunately I never got to play a woodwind. And learning on brasswinds has two problems:

1. I never learned chords
2. I don't know major or minor scales. Only basic concert scales.

I really wish my school (which was in a hick area full of idiots unfortunately) had an orchestra, as I prefer orchestra over "Big band" type music. I would have liked to learn the violin or stand up bass.

So as an adult I own a ton of synths and I've had to relearn scales and such because a piano-type instrument is so different from what I knew. I can still read music, but my ability to play has diminished as my parents sold my instruments when I quit band in high school due to hazing from the marching band instructors (I am a TERRIBLE marcher, due to my right foot dominance and flat-footedness).

I recently decided to learn a woodwind as well. I'm starting with a hard one: The Duduk. It's an armenian instrument that has become common across Central Asia and the Middle East, and I just love the sound of it. Here, you can see it in action as the lead instrument in this song:

Other than that, here's a list of instruments I'd like to learn:

Violin
Qin (A chinese string instrument)
Irish Warpipes
Biwa

RE: Musical Instruments?
I took a couple years of piano lessons in middle school and then spent ~10 yrs. never actually playing anything, but composing in tracker format, which gave me no practical performance skills, but a solid grounding in music theory. In the last few years, I've picked back up on playing piano/keyboards and picked up bass, with a little bit of guitar into the bargain. Ultimately, I suspect that I really just like anything that lets me make musical type noises ;)

RE: Musical Instruments?
I actually have a degree in Music. =)

The trumpet is my main instrument. My main trumpet is a C Monette horn made in 1991 or 1992 (3 digit serial number!) and I also play a Bb flugelhorn and, very rarely, a Bb Yamaha.
Raion is very right that the color of the trumpet changes a lot with the key - the whole instrument is shorter and a well built C trumpet (unlike Bb/C hybrids) has all the pipes a bit shorter. I've tried once an A trumpet. The difference was impressive.

I also play some piano and flute - not like my girlfriend, who is brilliant at the piano.

Back in university, I studied with a professor who spent a good decade studying with Stockhausen, so I had the opportunity to do editing by cutting and gluing tape together and try all sorts of experiments with electroacoustic music. It was super interesting.

From early music all the way to the most recent trends, if it is actually good and thoughtful, chances are I will enjoy and try to learn a bit about it if it catches my ears.

RE: Musical Instruments?
I can play several instruments (with varying degrees of skill). I started by having keyboard lessons when I was young, these continued until I was 16 and I won a couple of local competitions back then. I also learnt violin at school, but haven't played for years and was never that great at it.

At 17, I bought a bass guitar, taught myself to play and was in a couple of bands for a while with some friends. I also self-taught myself drums and could play well enough to drum for a couple of bands as well (including one where I'd joined as bassist, before moving to the drums when another friend joined who could also play bass). More recently I bought myself a normal guitar, but am not very good at that if I'm honest!

RE: Musical Instruments?
I picked up the Clarinet when I was in grade school, but quickly stopped before I got to high school, as I switched from woodwinds to strings. I currently play guitar, but can pick up almost any stringed instrument and with a little trial and error can be playing it in a little less than a day. I did get Piano training like most middle class white kids got, but it wasnt for very long.

I currently own a
12 string guitar
6 string Classic Guitar
Mountain Dulcimer
Pan Flute

I would love to pick up a violin to learn, but I haven't had the time/money of which to obtain one yet.
