An explanation of our Mascot

An explanation of our Mascot
As more and more of us are post-Nekochan or didn't recall, I should explain our mascot on the front page, error pages etc. Igni-chan is a homage and tradition that was started in 2001 by Nekochan.net. They had their own mascot, so when IRIXNet came about, I paid artist Kyokuusei to make Igni. She's a fox girl, but kemono is distinct from "furry" which some people are confused by.

Furries have animal traits beyond ears/tails, including but not limited to: animal paws instead of hands, a muzzle, and other things. I'm not a furry, and those who knew me on the discord know I was never super fond of them. I'm not really caring what other people do nowadays with regards to it, but kemonomimi (animal ears) or "kemono" for short is different.

Igni has fox ears and a tail. That is just a stylistic choice because the old Nekochan was the same way, cat ears and a tail:

You can't see the tail but its presumably there from his other drawings. Anyways, if you have a problem with our mascot or the fact that anime/manga intersect with SGI I understand, but it's not going to change and she's basically a footnote/tradition. I plan to eventually have a short comic drawn featuring her, one day, but maybe that'll be another time.

If you have any questions about the character, history, usage etc. let me know.

RE: An explanation of our Mascot
I thought that Nekochan (the website) was split-personality and couldn't decide whether it was otaku or classic-computer oriented. Of course if the owner of the site wants to put his various interests together into a kind of bouillabaisse, that's his prerogative. I do wonder if the mixed messages drove away more users than were attracted.

RE: An explanation of our Mascot
Perhaps on some level you have a point but I feel it's important to keep our lineage and traditions in mind. It also seems that most of our regulars from either place have not really had anything in terms of objections to say about it.

If people want a bland and generic forum and website this is probably not the place and in general it's pretty well known IRIXNet is more biased towards IRIX than it's predecessor.

I just thought I would post something because there was a topic about it on another website recently

Commission it/draw it. No nudity/18+ stuff, and post it here. I'll freaking die of laughter.
