SGI DEMO Scene

Question  SGI DEMO Scene
So I'm a big Amiga enthusiast.  Tons of games, tons of demos.  Is there a Demo Scene in the SGI community? I have 'Yellow Rose', great little demo, but the SGI is capable of so much more! Is there a source for demos for the SGI out there?  Cheers ...

Not really. The SGI community is much smaller and back in the day not really accessible for private individuals.

RE: SGI DEMO Scene
Depends on what you’re looking for. If by demos you mean things that people coded in their spare time to show off the systems, you’re not likely to find any in the wild. I’m sure there were developers who tinkered on the side but their work was probably proof of concept or something along those lines for an actual project. If anyone has files for a demo that SGI didn’t make themselves or package on install media, I’d love to hear about it and check it out.

If, on the other hand, you mean demos in general—things that can show off the power of an SGI—those were shipped with IRIX and exist on the installation media. I don’t have a solid number for you, but over the years and iterations of IRIX I think it would be safe to say that there are a couple dozen different demos out there such as Power Flip, Mandelbrot, Atlantis, and so on.

Yeah I don't know of many demos in the scene but I would love to have such things happen in the future.

I tried to get the Amiga community hyped and respecting of SGI hardware and software over the years but the majority of them can't seem to tell the difference between UNIX and Linux and don't understand the appeal

I'm the system admin of this site. Private security technician, licensed locksmith, hack of a c developer and vintage computer enthusiast.

Technical problems should be sent my way.
