Good to know; projects like this are underrated -- and X and other protocols often scare off devs (including me) because of the protocol complexity. Read through all the stuff X has done in the past, it's a freakin' riot. Print server? Really now?

There are VNC apps for IRIX, including VNC servers, but it's a fuckin' pain to setup and slow because there's no hardware SIMD, so things like JPEG encoding take a slog.

Hi Raion and others,

I just did google search on: "irix vnc server" and it looped around to: http://sgifiles.irixnet.org/freeware/Ins...1.2.8.html ;-)

So I went to TightVNC site, where it says that V2 is no longer available as Open Source code, but 1.3 is still available with generic Unix source code.

Has anyone tried to compile this (on IRIX) recently ?

Cheers from Oz,

jwhat/John.

I have. I want to update the latest package to 1.3 in Nekoware. Unfortunately, I am not currently in a place where I can access my IRIX boxes. It's details that I don't care to share publicly, but suffice to say: I'm fine, my computers are safe, but I am not able to access them even remotely.

Has anyone tried Xephyr? I use it to get a full remote desktop between modern Linux and BSD boxes. Not sure if it would make a difference. My Octane is on loan so I can't test it.
