Hey, everyone,

Although it was short notice, I will have an exhibit of SGI machines at the upcoming Vintage Computer Festival - Midwest this weekend in Elmhurst, IL. I'll be bringing as many of my systems as I can fit into my car for display and I intend to have at least a few of them readily up and running at any given time, with the rest ready to go if someone has something they're particularly interested in. The only exception for stuff I'm bringing may be the Onyx2, as it's just too big. That said, if I can find room for it and its parts, it'll come, too!

I hope to see as many people as possible there!

I'd love to attend but it's a serious haul from Minneapolis to Elmhurst, are you driving there all the way from Philly?

I moved back to Omaha not long ago, so it was a much shorter drive.

VCFMW was a wonderful time! I'm hopeful that we'll have a few new people stopping by the community soon to ask questions and generally be cool people. I managed to pick up a Personal Iris, though I don't know yet if it's fully working. I powered it up briefly and it looks okay other than a rattling fan, but it was suggested to me by someone who has apparently had a few of them (!) that it's really best to recap the supply before doing much else since it can go over voltage and hurt components as a failure state. So, that'll be a new project for me. My Octane has been replaced with a full Octane2 with a V8, and a couple of non-functional systems I purchased inexpensively in a lot with the Octane2 were given to good homes with people who can bring them back to life.

A lot of people were drawn in by my Indigo2 running FSN - it's iconic enough that it's recognizable for many, even if they don't have any idea what SGI computers are. It led to some great conversations! I definitely plan to have another exhibit there next year, although maybe in concert with someone else. I had 14 different SGI machines on display and that both barely fit in my little car and is a real pain to move around. Sharing the distribution across multiple people is probably for the best.
