How to reset and power a used L2 controller?

RE: How to reset and power a used L2 controller?
Hi Weblacky,

I have had plug from Jan-Jaap waiting for me to get out soldering iron for over a months now...

So I really should get this going and then do some further testing...

Let me see how I go on the weekend with getting power supply going and if so I will try to see what I can do with the dead (boot looping) L2.

Cheers from Oz,

RE: How to reset and power a used L2 controller?
Hi SGI'er,

using Jan-Jaap' picture and original SGI adaptor as reference:

Looking face on to female DB50 have: 3 x Rows:
- Top Row: 17 <- 1 (right to left)
- Middle Row: 33 <- 18 (right to left)
- Botton Row: 50 <- 34 (right to left)

PIN/Plug ID, based on stamped numbering on SGI original adaptor.

And measuring SGI original voltage:
+ 48 Volts: Plug/Pin 1, 3, 5
- Ground: Plug/Pin 2, 4, 6

So Jan-Jaap's - RED +V 48, Black GND is correct ;-)

I will now solder the provided female plug...

Thanks Jan-Jaap.

Cheers from Oz,

Hi Weblacky,

you can get to the Linux/PPC load prompt, by just going into Shell "!" from working L2 (via Serial port) and then doing a reboot.

It will reboot to the load prompt.

Changing log level does not appear to do anything, it will simply ignore any "invalid input" and then just goes into standard boot cycle.

So you can can do this type of testing with any working L2.

My dead L2 is now really really dead and pretty much returns straight to Linux/PPC boot prompt after first spitting out garbage to serial/console port:

>> Ethernet address from Motorola VPD EEPROM is 08:00:69:11:B5:38
>>
>> Linux/PPC load:
>> Uncompressing Linux...done.
>> Now booting the kernel
>> 00>00>000>0>>>>>0>0>000>0>000>>0>00
>> Ethernet address from Motorola VPD EEPROM is 08:00:69:11:B5:38
>>
>> Linux/PPC load:

To get to a lower level of diagnostic maybe you need to plug into the ICMB port...

I presume that this is some sort of diagnostic / loader interface port but there is no documentation available on the ICMB port.
