IRIX on xBox 360 consoles

Question  IRIX on xBox 360 consoles
I have an Xbox 360 console that I was wanting to convert into an IRIX Workstation. I was wondering what it would take to get that to work and also get the best/most desirable results. Also since I don't have an IRIX installation package, do you know where I can get the things I will need to do this?

Note: if this would be better in a different part of IRIXnet, and you are someone who can move it, Feel free to do so, I don't mind.

RE: IRIX on xBox 360 consoles
Hello Cyberstorm64DD,

IRIX is not a free, open source software. It is a proprietary OS that was developed for SGI hardware, and only runs on MIPS big-endian workstations created by SGI with one exception - the Cray X1 and X1e which runs the IRIX-based UNICOS/mp.

There is no way to run IRIX on a PowerPC system like an XBOX 360, much less a Nintendo 64 or Playstation 2 (which are the correct architecture, but have no capabilities)

I would first install Linux on Xbox 360, then port MAME with support for IRIX 5.3 to it. Though possible, it is not straightforward.

Performance would also be worse than most consumer PCs.

Go ahead and try it. Try and install Linux and Mame on a 360. Don't come complaining to us when it takes 3 days to load IRIX emulation.
