Maple 7 in FTP

Maple 7 in FTP
I just uploaded a custom tardist of Waterloo Maple 7 to /incoming. The original distribution was not an irix native package, so I tried to fix that by repackaging the installation from my Indy. As far as I can tell there are only one set of libraries and binaries in the original distribution so this should work on any 6.5 machine. It includes a tiny startup script to assist bringing up the license manager in a working fashion which allows the application to run completely. You should be able to install the tardist and run

Code:
/usr/local/maple/bin/xmaple

Maple 7 is a computer algebra system like Mathematica. Aside from their differences in features of which there are many, Maple 7 has the advantage of being n32 which means that it runs on Indigo/Indy/O2, not just Octanes like Mathematica 5.2.

As a math nerd, I thank you.

I currently use Mathematica on my Octane, and a later version on my iMac for computational projects, mainly for my amateur radio hobby.

I've never understood where Maple fits into things, especially compared to Mathematica or even MATLAB, so this will be fun to tinker with!

RE: Maple 7 in FTP
so does this version of maple7 not need a license? I was able to start it via "xmaple", so thanks a bunch!

BTW I just uploaded maple6 with does appear to need a license, if someone who has the skillset can tackle that

RE: Maple 7 in FTP
You can also install from file waterloo-maple-7-Irix.tgz also present on ftp and just add license

Code:
PACKAGE Maple7WithExcel maplelmg 2001.0615 COMPONENTS="Maple7Excel \
    Maple7" OPTIONS=SUITE SIGN=562B0A5ABF4E
FEATURE Maple7WithExcel maplelmg 2001.0615 permanent uncounted \
    HOSTID=ANY ISSUER="DRINK OR DIE 2001" \
    ISSUED=31-jul-2001 NOTICE="DOD" SN=7.0 \
    SIGN=C047E15A1F04
 Paste it to /usr/local/maple/license/license.dat and go on.
