Video/Effects editing on Tezro

RE: Video/Effects editing on Tezro
Hi Geoman,

the MIDI Lucid ADA 8824 & Serial -> MIDI adaptor have finally arrived.

So will give them a go, as currently when machine boots it complains about not finding ADA.

I also came across this manual: "Configuration File Reference Guide for IRIX Workstations" which provides all the details on AutoDesk / Discreet SW configuration items.

Specifically for ADA 8824 it indicates that you can use direct MIDI (ie do not need the specific Discreet RS-232 module).

Here is capture of relevant pages:

So:

MidiDevice myMidiDevice,
midi_LUCID_ADA8824, /dev/ttyd5,
direct_RS422, 31250, NOPARITY

Cheers from Oz,

RE: Video/Effects editing on Tezro
Here is the cabling and the configuration described:
URL: Discreet HW Setup Guide

My config is as followes:

Code:
# MIDIDEVICE KEYWORD (MIDIDEVICE SERIAL PORT)
# -----------------------------------------------
# The MidiDevice keyword enables am external midi controller device.
# Only the serial port and the protocol need to be customized.
#
# Note: Only one device will be recognized.
#
# Syntax: MidiDevice <name>, <device configuration file>, <serial port>, <protocol>, <baud rate>, <parity>
#
# The second argument can now be a filename to be parsed.
# parity: EVEN, ODD or NOPARITY
#
#MidiDevice   myMidiDevice, midi_YAMAHA_O2R,    /dev/ttyd5, direct_RS422, 31250, NOPARITY
#MidiDevice   myMidiDevice, midi_JLC_MCS3800,   /dev/ttyd5, direct_RS232, 38400, ODD
#MidiDevice   myMidiDevice, midi_JLC_MCS3800,   /dev/ttyd5, direct_RS422, 38400, ODD
MidiDevice   Lucid8824midi, midi_LUCID_ADA8824, /dev/ttyd6, direct_RS422, 31250, NOPARITY, 1
#MidiDevice   Lucid8824serial, midi_LUCID_ADA8824_A232, /dev/ttyd5, direct_RS232, 9600, NOPARITY, 1

#MidiDevice   Lucid88192, midi_LUCID_ADA88192, /dev/ttyd5, direct_RS232, 9600, NOPARITY, 1

RE: Video/Effects editing on Tezro
Hi Geoman,

ok this now makes sense, as SGI serial ports are capable of running RS-422 and hence MIDI.

So the ebay Serial / Midi Adaptor is essentially a powered RS-422/MIDI <-> MIDI unit (to split the signals across seperate MIDI IN/OUT cables).

I have the previously set up my Octane (and just tested the same with Fuel) with MIDI Keyboard using very old Opcode Translator (which provided same function for old Macs).
This unit is not externally powered as it draws power from the serial port.

I expect this passive device would also work with the MIDI Lucid ADA 8824 with MIDI option configured in the init.cfg file.

I tested the standard MIDI Lucid ADA 8824 with the powered adaptor (via ttyd4 on my O350 as ttyd2 is dead for some reason...) and Discreet SW now initialises ok, so good progress.

Thanks for information and tips.

Cheers from Oz,

Yes, you cannot use the ADAT SYNC ports that look like serial ports on the Lucid. First I tried that with no luck.

It is Tezro --> "Serial / Midi Adaptor" --> 2 MIDI Cables --> Lucid Ada. Then you can configure the Lucid Ada via Flame interface as you wish

Best,
Geoman
