Hello IRIX Network!
Hello everyone!
About a week ago I went to VCFMW with my dad, and he bought an SGI Octane there (and essentially tasked me with learning how to use it). It is in very good condition, and it has a 250MHz R10k, 256MB RAM, ESI graphics, and an 18 gig HDD. Everything I learned about IRIX and SGI I learned in the past week. It's functional and works and whatnot, but I'll need your help in things like setting up a NAS, installing software, and using IRIX in general.
I've been collecting neat computers and computer components for a few years now. I got 5 Sun systems a while back because they were dirt cheap and looked interesting. Unfortunately, I happen to know very little about Solaris and Unix in general. I hope to get one to be fully functional one of these days, along with the Octane.
I came across this forum by looking at sgistuff.net and I knew it would be a very valuable resource for these old machines. Hopefully I can get help with all of the things I don't know.
See you around!

RE: Hello IRIX Network!
Welcome. Owner/operator here, I hope you enjoy your stay. Don't mind the construction dust as there are a lot of things that I need to fix when my locksmithing ordeal is over with.

I'm the system admin of this site. Private security technician, licensed locksmith, hack of a c developer and vintage computer enthusiast.

Technical problems should be sent my way.
