The Jim Rees Apollo archive has shut down

Information  The Jim Rees Apollo archive has shut down
Might have posted this in several places (And yes, i'm u/Marwheel, and this is my first ever post here on this form), but i come with bad news:

The 2nd longest software archive dedicated to an specific platform has shut down now. The Jim Rees Apollo Archive has shut down after years of service to an innovative platform long-forgotten by the broad IT community. The archive provided GNU software, non-software related files related to Apollo Computers, and other semi-recent software for users of AEGIS | Domain/OS.

While the archive is still up, only the index is served. The owner of had the unfortunate timing of taring the archive before archive.org suffered an cyberattack & related problems that is still ongoing.

And if anyone's wondering what i just said- This announcement's for the AEGIS (Later on Domain/OS) OS that ran on the Apollo/Domain line of workstations & severs from the now defunct Apollo Computers. AEGIS was an distributed OS predating both Plan9 and cellular IRIX, & Unlike the latter two AEGIS was more Multics-like.

RE: The Jim Rees Apollo archive has shut down
As soon as I have a little bit of breathing room (preparing to go to a swap meet at New Jersey has taken most of my energy and time) I will absolutely be doing what I promised. Sorry it's taking a bit longer but when you have a car that needs a million things and a one track mind it's very difficult to find time to sit down and take care of these things.

I'm the system admin of this site. Private security technician, licensed locksmith, hack of a c developer and vintage computer enthusiast.

Technical problems should be sent my way.

That's sad to hear, but thanks for posting the news.

I have one of the later HP/Apollo 4xx series workstations that can run either HP-UX or Domain/OS. I never got around to setting up Domain/OS though. That's largely because it uses a different keyboard and mouse than HP-UX. (The machine has a toggle switch on the back to flip between firmware modes, too!)

Despite never actually getting to use Domain/OS, the name Jim Rees is still very familiar because of his large contribution to the community.

Alas, time marches on.
