COBOL compiler for IRIX?

COBOL compiler for IRIX?
Trying to learn COBOL for the hell of it and thought I’d do it in IRIX.

Is there any COBOL compilers available for IRIX?

RE: COBOL compiler for IRIX?
I don't recall ever coming across any COBOL compilers, but there is open-COBOL/gnuCOBOL https://open-cobol.sourceforge.io/faq/index.html

I just did a test compile of open-COBOL 1.0 and it compiled fine

RE: COBOL compiler for IRIX?
i just played a bit with 2.2 and 3.0, they both give me SIGBUS errors, I'm not really good enough to really troubleshoot that, but hopefully 1.0 is enough for you

1.0 is just fine. I just want to play around with it. What did you compile it with btw? MIPSPro?

RE: COBOL compiler for IRIX?
Fujitsu did one in the early days. One of SAMS Teach yourself COBOL ones had single user version Solaris/HP-UX (9/10.x), Wintendo, DOS, DG and an IRIX one. Later books dropped DG, IRIX and possibly the HP-UX 9.x.

It was for 5.3 only and ECOFF because I had issues running it on my Octane when I upgraded from the Indy in the 90's. It also had some issues with the runtime lib, but it wasn't hard to work out.

I used it and the DEC VMS one on 6.2 learn COBOL'85 stuff as a student back when Jesus played full-back for Jeruselem.

RE: COBOL compiler for IRIX?
I've not seen it elsewhere .. but Fujitsu still makes NetCOBOL so it's "evolved". I guess at the time they saw as the ICL/Fujitsu SPARC & Solaris systems the SGI competition and hedged their bets. I've found the HP-UX v7, v8, v9 and v10 versions and Solaris. Think the IRIX one was for 4.x and 5.x. I've found one of the runtimes, but not the compiler yet. Still have about 80+ unchecked drives I need to one day dump and catalog.

Performance wise, it was actually really quick. Definitely faster than the Windows versions for NT4/2000 and Win3.1. I do recall that like the Windows versions, it did support CICS.
