Forgive if this has been discussed before. I did a quick search and didn't see anything.

This look incredibly promising as a way of bringing decent browsing experience back to IRIX.  

Anyone tried it??

No, but Dodoid had a similar idea. I'll probably bring tightvnc client to IRIX again sooner or later.
