Section 230 and implications for irixnet
Because the site is hosted in the United States and I obtained the domain from a US based registrar, I was asked this morning by a concerned user what a repeal of section 230 would mean.

The long and short of it is that I'm not planning to shut down the site if anything happens. The threat of lawsuits are very real but that's already part and parcel of running a website. The worst that will come of this is that I will need to be careful to try to make us not considered a publisher. I'm prepared to consult an attorney on this, everyone here involved in the site is 100% worth every penny I would spend on that.

No matter what the internet does we will survive. Currently the United States is the best country for me to run a website from not only due to being a United States citizen but the fact that we don't have highly invasive copyright laws and that I am rather against censorship if it's topical.

I want to reiterate that I thank everybody for their support here and that I have tried to stay ahead of the curve on most things. If I receive legal threats as a result of S230 repeal there might be a chance that things change around here but we will continue to exist in our current capacity with minor modifications at the worst. I'm not about to bend to stuff like Facebook or other big tech platforms because frankly I'm not interested. If it becomes too expensive to be hosted then I will find a way to raise the money.

I'm the system admin of this site. Private security technician, licensed locksmith, hack of a c developer and vintage computer enthusiast.

Technical problems should be sent my way.
