Tezro node/hub error

RE: Tezro node/hub error
As food for thought regarding these machines, I don't know how much thermal shock they're subject to when they cycle, so I tend to run mine for long enough for it to warm up properly before shutting it down!

I'm still getting the error, but at the same time the system seems to be running OK. Hinv sees all and apps still work...wish I could find the diagnostics install.

RE: Tezro node/hub error
Hi BackPlaner,

I had a look at my O350 (part of Chimera family like the Tezro) the other day and unlike the Fuel there is no diagnostic package loaded as part of 6.5.30.

I am pretty sure I installed all available packages on this machine as part of install, so it might be that there is not equivalent to the Fuel diagnostics package for Tezro / O350.

Also I had a problem with one of my O350 chassis as a result of accidentally dropping it, resulting in a damaged array connector.

To stop the boards from getting screwed down to tightly I make a 3-D printed shim that sits btw the interface and CPU board.

See here for pics:

This helps keep the IP59_4CPU (4 X 1GHz CPU board) going so effort was worth it.

If you think such a shim could help you, I can dig out the print files.

Cheers from Oz,

John.

Hi BackPlaner,

I have done some further searching of my SGI CD archives...

I looks like the diagnostics SW is not part of standard IRIX cd distribution.

I suspect that they where distributed to SGI engineers via the IST CD packs.

I have just had a look at the IST 2.7 CD contents and this has field diagnostics for various machines including o2, octane, o2000 and o3000 and software support up to IRIX 6.5.17 but not for fuel, Tezro or o350. I think o350 needs at least 6.5.21 (??).

I also had a IST 3.24 tar file that I got the L3/L2 emulation software from, but my downloaded version has somehow got corrupted and so I cannot see what other SW this included.

To get diagnostic SW we need to source a more recent IST CD and see if this has the required additional software.

So call out there to SGI'ers to have a look at their CD collections to see if they can help source more recent version of these CDs or images or tars of contents.

Cheers from Oz,

John.

RE: Tezro node/hub error
So last time I posted here regarding my dead Tezro, I had resigned myself to the fact unless I was improbably lucky, it could be years before I could find a replacement node board at a reasonable price.

Well, I guess I deserved a little bit of luck, as I saw one on ebay last month and at a decent price. (4x 700mhz)

Finally got it a few days ago and went back to work on the beast. Turned out the old one had taken a couple of the one gigabyte RAM cards with it, so I had to order those, wait for them, and then finally I got it all together, got to the PROM and ran enableall, update, and reset, and lo and behold, the thing is working again! And with a full 8 gigs of memory even.

Oh happy day. 👍

Thanks to everyone who advised back when it went south, much appreciated.

Backplaner,

good to hear good news !

Did the IP53_4CPU board come from Australia, by any chance ??
