Blindly change resolution/refresh rate

Blindly change resolution/refresh rate
So, I just got a very nice O2, but I only have an Avermedia Capture card here! Capturing works, I can see the welcome screen, but nothing after that.

The previous owner said that he used it at 1280x1024 at 75Hz. It seems to boot fine, so I highly suspect that the capture card doesn't like 75Hz refresh rate.

So I wonder what would be the best way to change the resolution without a screen.

Also, how can I safely shut down the O2 when I can't see anything?

Serial console is generally the recommendation. I believe the command is "setmon"

You can push the power button once to soft power off.
