I have a O2 with a busted base. Shocking I know. 

I also have a few old non working machines with good bases.

How the heck do you get them off? The hardware guide shows how to take off the top skins, but not the base.

Any tips greatly appreciated.

There are two tabs securing the black base to the metal chassis. Lift the tabs gently, only 1mm-2mm *the may snap!* while pushing the base toward the non-tab side. It will click as the tabs slide over the metal catches and the base will come loose.

* check you don't have any retention screws near the centre of the base, these may hold on the drive bay separator.
