What movies have influenced your thinking the most?
The two "movies" that have influenced my thinking the most are: "The Lawnmower Man" and "The Matrix" (Which was obviously a trilogy and is about to become a quadrilogy.)

"The Lawnmower Man", as it covered the concept of mental augmentation (which caused me to adopt a new method of thinking, forever changing my internal thought processes), and "The Matrix", as it questions this reality and our role within it!

"The Lawnmower Man" is responsible for the nickname I gave my brother, which he still uses for himself to this day, being "Jobes" (A play on the character "Jobe Smith" from "The Lawnmower Man"!)

So, what movies has influenced your thinking the most?

The matrix as well. It made me realize it might be impossible to know what is real. Also it created an aversion to big institutions that try to control people. Another one was Fight Club's nihilism, that life has no real inherent meaning outside the ones we ascribe to it. Fortunately the absurd humor of that movie and movies like Pulp Fiction helped to balance the pessimism and not take things in life too seriously.

Contact - As it shows quite nicely that life is a hell of a ride, you will miss the great prize anyway and still be happy with what life has given to you.

Star Trek - Because one aspect it shows is that money is no longer a driving force.
»The economics of the future are somewhat different. You see, money doesn't exist in the 24th century.«
We are still very far away from such a future.  I think most people would rather agree to something like this: »It's easier to imagine the end of the world than the end of capitalism.« Nevertheless, I try to give money a low priority whenever possible.

Merchants of Doubt - Because, well this should be obvious.  Make sure to question the motives of others when they are trying to sell their truth.

Spy Game - There's this special quote in the movie: »When did Noah build the ark, Gladys? Before the storm.« I try to take this at heart and have a plan B for important stuff.  I'm not a prepper and don't have a nuclear shelter or such nonsense.  It's more related to business stuff, simply as in: If your favoured solution will not be possible, have an alternative solution whenever possible.
