Question  DCD & MultiLink Adapter/1600SW Cable Magic
So I was reading in This Link, and it mentioned some kind of cable modification.

Anyone have more info on what was up with this, or what the cable was supposed to achieve ?

RE: DCD & MultiLink Adapter/1600SW Cable Magic
Scanning thru the what remain's of Jack's posts in the Nekonomicon, I didn't run across the post where he described exactly which pins were removed to correct the problem.  He does mention having to boot the system with the DVI cable disconnected to be able to display 1600x1024:

Jack Luminous Wrote:- the DVI must be physically disconnected to avoid the EDID reading. Even if both the MLA+1600SW are both shut off, the VPRO card still detects everything and reverts back to "authorized" vfos list.

- I tried with the VPro_1600x1024_60-Analog_MLA.vfo posted above and it gives the same result as the other one : it disappears from the list if the DVI is connected at startup. But it works fine with the hot-plugging scenario.

Based on that info I'd suspect he pulled the the DDC pin(s) from his cable.  If you've got a spare DVI cable you don't mind sacrificing to test my assumption, I'd suggest starting with Pin 7, followed by Pin 6 if 7 didn't do the job.

BTW, he also mentions switching to a Dr Bott SGI Saver was his final solution, as that apparently worked without modifying the cable.
