USB keyboard,mouse/KVM to PS2 converter?

USB keyboard,mouse/KVM to PS2 converter?
I want to use my Indigo2 with my USB KVM switch. I know this will take a rare active converter meant for this task, not any simple USB/PS2 adapters.

I see two devices that look like they will work. Has anyone used either one of these? My main concern is the KVM has one USB connection with both KB and mouse on it. These converters have two USB ports, but I'm hoping they will still see both KB and mouse and route the signals to the two PS2 ports properly?

Alrighty, I found the Tripp Lite/Minicom on Amazon.ca for less than $100 Canadian. I'll report how well it works with the Indigo2 and my KVM and/or standard USB KB/Mouse.

I got the Tripp Lite/Minicom 0DT60002 and it seems to work just fine! Keyboard and mouse work at the PROM monitor. I don't have IRIX installed at this point so I can't test further. First try I didn't get mouse, only KB, the USB cable from the KVM was plugged into the top USB port on the converter. Plugged it into the lower USB port and got mouse and KB.

Now I just need an Indigo2 drive sled!!!

RE: USB keyboard,mouse/KVM to PS2 converter?
So, this converter mostly works, but fails in a very important way, the ctrl key turns on caps lock and I have to do a dance with the caps lock, shift and repeated clicks on the ctrl key to get it out of being stuck in caps lock. So there's no way to use the ctrl key properly. Which, of course, is important. Perhaps this is an issue with my Trendnet KVM and the Tripp Lite converter? I'll have to test using USB devices directly connected to the converter. I REALLY hope I can get this working. Because I do not see ANY other active USB kb/mouse to PS2 converters still made. I see references to a "Linkskey LKV-PUC01", but only see out of stock listings for it and the Linkskey website seems to be down. Searching only turns up thousands of PS2 kb/mouse to USB converters, not the opposite way around I need.

Will report back if I get any better results. If anyone knows any other way to use USB kb/mouse on PS2 SGIs, please do shout out.

Well, directly connecting the kb/mouse gives the same result. I guess I'll try contacting Tripp Lite about the issue. Don't know what else to try.

I suppose I need to try testing an actual PS2 kb to make sure this isn't some strange problem with the Indigo2. I did check and it's set to use US keyboards, so that's not the issue.

Are you sure this isn't a scan code issue? Most PC keyboards use scan code 2 where SGIs use scan code 3. A lot of the keys map over but stuff like Control triggering Caps Lock is something that I recall from using a newer Logitech PS/2 keyboard on my Octane. The ESC key also did not work and Num-Lock and Scroll-Lock were also off if I recall correctly.

I can't imagine the USB-PS/2 active converter supports scan code 3.

RE: USB keyboard,mouse/KVM to PS2 converter?
I think you folks are right! Does seem like a scan code issue. Here I was thinking PS2 was PS2. How silly of me. That's the thing about standards, there's always so many variations to choose from. Wink

I'll be doing more research I guess. So I guess I need a USB keyboard that uses scancode 3??? I have a CoolerMaster MasterKeys Pro L RGB, I generally adore this keyboard. Any chance it can be set to differing scan codes? It's got a Cortex processor and some setup software, but I will be very surprised if it can do alternate scan codes. But I will check. And I'll see if I can find what the Tripp Lite 0DT60002 reads and sends.
