On to the next, not exactly perfect, but did run my brain through a few interesting modeling challenges..

RE: MentalRay Rendering test
The Original Tron is the reason I do VFX for a living. My grandma took me to the theatrical release in 1982 when I was 5.

I told her that I wanted to "do that" and she asked "ride motor bikes" and I said "No, I want to be able to make that kind of picture" and she said "Well, your generation will likely be the first computer generation so hopefully you will be able to if you learn computers well enough".

It all came full circle because I had began making CGI professionally in 1995 and in 2010 was at Digital Domain when Tron Legacy production began.
It was this neat kind of narrative completion to be able to work on Tron after it began my interest in 3d Graphics in 1982.

These images look great and are true to the original. Smile

Thanks! I was inspired by the same thing back in the day, the hand painting was sure one way to get around the limitations of what was possible with the software and computing power. There is a third one supposedly in the works or about to boot. Was that Digital Domain office in Santa Monica? Right by the SGI/Wavefront training center?

Just watched a video on YouTube the other day of some guys who re-created the entire LightCycle scene in one day, looked almost totally identical to the original Disney work. Amazing how the compute power has grown exponentially in 40 years.

In looking at the scene again, the colors were quite off, so trying a few things out..
