Air Freight Transportation for brittle plastic shells

Air Freight Transportation for brittle plastic shells
Dear Gurus,

As I am aware, plastics are fragile and some more than others. I am used to shipping equipment to various places around the world. Cameras, laptops, PCs etc but generally they have metal cases and are built with mobility as a principal function. However, I also have an O2 and soon an Octane. If I ever need to vacate I'd really like to take them on the plane and not depend on freight/shipping. I also really don't want to pack them in a cardboard anything or do bubble wrap or packing nuts. I was thinking more along the lines of a hardened flight case with the foam inside that I could cut to fit the shell.

But I've read this is also a bad move due to lack of shock protection in the foam itself causing cracking on the shell.

So has anyone ever moved this fragile stuff around and what's the general advice? Remove the boards and store then pack the shell or ship the unit full configured? Just hoping for useful advice please.

Cheers!
Rich

Instapak is what I suggest for Octanes or O2s. It's a chemical expander pack that can cradle them.

For the O2, I suggest GENTLY removing the top case pieces, packing them separately, and then laying the O2 with the metal shell taking the force.

Technical problems should be sent my way.

You're not going to like this ... when I moved to China I knew I could get clothes here easy but Irix computers, not so much.

So I stuffed the O2 and 1600SW into a carryon bag, like a duffel bag, and put the Octane into a cardboard box. It was barely under the weight limit, 70 lbs then. Stuffed jeans and underwear and a few shirts around them for packing, cuz I probably needed something to wear for a few days.

Everything survived fine.

The carryon might be a problem now, they have gotten stricter about that.

What can I say ? Worked for me :-)

Actually - that makes a ton of sense. It's a workout and courier in one. Maybe I can get a seat at the from with a bassinet for the baby.
Thanks guys - it isn't for now - but I just want to take care of this stuff you know what I mean. Bloody expensive hobby and its hard to find things in good condition.

Cheers
