MAME, IRIX 6.5.22 - Filesystem corruption
Hello again,
My successful MAME and IRIX installation on win10 has developed a new problem.
When I try to boot the emulation I receive a few pages of errors regarding XFS
and the boot fails. A condensed error is:

ALERT: Filesystem "/": XFS Internal error
xfs_da_do_buf(2) at line 2274 of file ../fs/xfs/xfs_da.btree.c

I assume this is a corrupted filesystem that needs repair with xfs_repair.
I've tried to understand, without much success, how and where you execute
xfs_repair. I have not had the need to do this in IRIX or another OS.
Do you need to boot some kind of rescue or installation boot CD?
I have seen installation and overlay CDs described, but not exclusively for
filesystem repair. I definitely could use some direction from a knowledgeable user.

RE: MAME, IRIX 6.5.22 - Filesystem corruption
Since I posted I've restored the irix65.chd file from a backup.
The system now boots properly - no emergency.

I'm still interested in some direction, especially regarding the "miniroot" installation.
This can be done from CD, so I assume it can be done from a CD image in MAME.
Has anyone had success with the miniroot and xfs_repair? I saved the
corrupt irix65.chd disk image for future repair attempts (if necessary).
Can anyone respond? My posts don't seem to generate any discussion!

Very few people are emulating sgis. I'm not trying to demean yours or anyone else's efforts, but this is a very niche project of a much larger project. The majority of the people consider emulation at this point to be a toy for the operating system.

So please don't be frustrated if people don't respond; you're one of like five people that have posted on this in the last 2 years.

On to your issue as far as I remember when Ryan H. got everything working to a certain degree back five or so years ago; there are bugs in the installer because of improper SCSI emulation that cause the installer to not work correctly. It's much easier to just restore the disk image thus, and as far as I know that's the way that people have been forced to do it for the last 5 years.

I'm sorry I can't give you anything of substance on that, but that's my recollection of the problem. Please realize that MAME developers don't really lurk here, I know that Ryan has moved on to other platforms for the time being. Should you end up contacting him, my recommendation is to not waste his time with complaining. If you have something constructive to add or a direct question he will probably be more receptive than just general complaining as I know that he has a pretty low bar for patience historically. I'm not aware of who is actively working on any MAME improvements for SGI hardware other than the developer who sometimes posts with the Hatsune Miku avatar (his name escapes me... Sorry dude!)

Anyways, I am glad that you have a way to run the OS. Regardless of the avenue, I think that this is one of the coolest operating systems out there on the planet. Of course, that is a generally minority opinion in the age of "Apple is the greatest and I'd let Tim Cook crap in my mouth any day!" Or "ooh pretty colors" for KDE and Enlightenment users.

I don't seek to be a complainer. Sorry if I came across that way.
For five people your site sure gets quite a few views! Do you think it attracts views
out of searches or is it a community gathering place? I'm just a hobbyist trying
out different emulators.

It's mostly hardware users who are here at IRIXNet but you will find that some people keep tabs on it. I wasn't saying you're a complainer, just tempering expectations from that.
