Setting up an FTP server in IRIX?

Setting up an FTP server in IRIX?
I have the need to setup an ftp server in IRIX, which will allow me to transfer large files from my Tezro to my Mac.

I came across the following documentation regarding the setting up of an anonymous ftp in IRIX:

I just want to confirm that this is the correct procedure to be followed for this purpose and any tips and inputs are welcome here!

Why anonymous? You've got an account on the SGI, and regular (user+pass) FTP works out of the box in IRIX.

NB: recent macOS no longer have an FTP client included, you need brew or similar.

Mac 10.7.5 is supposed to speak nfs, too. Mine doesn't want to, but smb works ... to the HP mini server ver 7, Solaris 11, great minds ? Biggrin

Can you just transplant the ftp client from an earlier OS X ? Mine is in /usr/bin, should be easy to zip it up ?

Of course you can but I didn't have a backup handy and random binaries from the internet just didn't seem such a great idea.

I’ve got the software required to setup an ftp client on my Mac, but not a server.

I have no prior experience with this.

Thanks!Smile

To add to the confusion. Why not setup NFS on IRIX? ;-)

https://irix7.com/techpubs/007-0850-160.pdf

Then you can mount it in OSX with CMD-K in the finder.

From memory, the ftp server runs by default and is launched from inetd . Just point an ftp client at your SGI's IP address, I use Cyberduck, and use your account login credentials to access your files in the /usr/people/whoever directory.

ftp is not encrypted, the usual warnings apply.

Thanks very much for all the input, I got it up and running! Smile By using Cyberduck on the Mac side and setting a password for my guest account on the SGI side.

If you just want to get files from the Tez onto the mac, you can fire up fireflop and enter

ftp://tezro's ip address

and it'll connect, pop up a login screen for user and password, then you can browse and download any files that user has access to.

Fast, easy, but won't go the other way.

I don't know if that works in grab yer board and go sidewalk surfin with me, but you can try.

That works remotely, too, if you want to play with me but yer playin with fire ...
