Working on getting my pvms set up

Working on getting my pvms set up
I have my ikegami broadcast monitor and my Sony Trinitron that are going to replace my larger 27-in TV that I only use for gaming. The 27 in TV is going to my younger brother who is starting his own retro gaming journey much like I did many years ago and I have given it to him for an excellent price.

Those of you with speaker setups what are you using to plumb your sound? I'm not looking for a full receiver set up here likely because I don't think that my setup is going to be permanent enough to justify it but specifically I want to get better sound than I would out of a television set.

Also if anyone has any quests on photos I have my professional cameras that I can take photo with although they will still probably have the moire scan pattern on them so just keep that in mind.

I use alsamixer, but I'm on Linux, I don't know if there's a Windows version.

If you don't want to set up full-size speakers and an amplifier component, you would logically look for a pair of self-powered "bookshelf" speakers. I have a pair of Bose Roommates that I bought for computer use, but you have many choices. The Cambridge SoundWorks 2.1 were popular. There are also self-powered "monitors" like the Roland MA-12 or Yamaha MS-101.

I was actually looking at the Roland monitors. They can sometimes pop up on Goodwill websites pretty regularly.

I do have an Onkyo receiver, I just don't know if it's going to work particularly well with the fact that I have BNC PVMs and such. I will have to sit down and research what people recommend as far as making BNC cables or whatnot

Onkyo "AV" receivers (and AV receivers generally) have a video input switch, but if you only connect the source's video to the PVM and its audio to the receiver/preamp, you don't need to worry about connecting those two together. Nonetheless it is useful to have BNC-RCA adapters around, particularly since sources like game consoles typically use RCA video out. Basically if you only care about one source at a time you don't need to bother with input switching, or if you can handle switching audio and video separately, it also stays simple. If you really need instant input switching then maybe it would be better to use an Extron switcher-HD-scaler.

I've attached a photo of my Ikegami. I like it a lot although the Trinitron on top of it is going to be an equally great TV once I fix it. Unfortunately I'm not getting picture from the tube.

Nice display: looks a lot like my Barco CVM.

No picture from the Sony, but can you feel static charge on the glass?

Yes. i get that flyback whine too.

I've already identified a couple places on the power board that need repairs. We are replacing some transistors, a few caps and a fuse that is bad.

As far as the ikegami goes I like it a lot because it's one of the nicest dot masks I've touched.

Just letting folks know that an Ikegami TM14-20RH is on eBay now: bidding is at $66, with reasonable shipping.

I vouch for the Yamahas. We have them and they are just wonderful, and excellent for the price.

My wet dream is to get the subwoofer to match, but it is too expensive for my budget.
