Operating system automatically reconfiguring every time I boot the system
After playing around with the stack size limit in IRIX 6.5.30 on my Tezro, I now get the following message each time the machine boots:

The stack size limit has returned to its original value, so the change that I mad wasn't permanent:

The system is still running fine, but I just don't like changes such as this!

How do I fix this?

Firstly, check the mail as it logs the reason -- you can turn off the sendmail services to get rid of that message btw.

As for why it keeps doing this, I'm not sure. You probably need to chkconfig verbose on, then check the /var/sysadm/SYSLOG

RE: Operating system automatically reconfiguring every time I boot the system
I sorted out the mail problem, by deleting an empty mail file in /var/mail

I have done a "chkconfig verbose on" and am now rebooting the system.

Here's an excerpt from my SYSLOG from the last boot:

RE: Operating system automatically reconfiguring every time I boot the system
Hey hou!

First off, have you done a kernel backup before changing the stack size limit? If so, put your backup kernel into place and reboot. If not, read on...

Do a ls -l /unix.* and post output. You possibly changed the stack size limit using systune, which should reconfigure the kernel, but if memory serves, it does not put the new kernel into place (so you should now have /unix, the old kernel, and /unix.install, the new kernel with new stack size limit). If so, first make a backup of your existing kernel:

# cp /unix /unix.bak

Put the new kernel into place:

# mv /unix.install /unix

And reboot:

# reboot

If the above does not get rid of the message, try reverting your changes using systune, so files in system and master subdirs get updated (reverted to original values) and then repeat the same procedure as above:

# cp /unix /unix.bak
# mv /unix.install /unix
# reboot
