VCF East 2023 Run-up (For Raion)
I suppose some of you might be concerned from my recent silence on this website. That is mostly because vehicle projects have been taking up my time although I have gotten back into libdisk and IRIX development extensively. It's been difficult for me to stay put with this but here's a bit of a status report:
1. libdisk is progressing slowly mostly because my RE partner, Endeavor, is having personal life issues and I can't exactly get into the details of it as he's private. Suffice to say, though his ability to contribute to clean room reverse engineering has diminished.
2. IRIXCE I have not been able to work up the impetus on. I recently fixed up my setup down here in North Carolina and at my house back in Virginia as well but I have been discouraged because both places are quite cluttered and they won't be decluttered until post VCF East. I am taking up a lot of stuff that is just sitting around that I will never get to at this point.
3. I was recently asked about GCC so I decided to start working on that again. It is also frustrating because even though I left myself a lot of good notes I have to try to fix multilib, redo software patches etc. Code is never fun when you're having to rely on other people's, and I don't exactly know what I'm doing there sometimes.
So no I don't have much to show at VCF myself but I have hopes that I can possibly by VCF Midwest if I can make it out there.
People will notice that I have been talking a lot more about vehicles and that's because in the last couple of years I have started to get back into auto repair. I used to own brand new vehicles and such but after a series of wrecks that were not my fault from 2020-2021 I lost 3 cars. I'm not going to get into the details of how it happened but two of them were caused by people with ambiguous legal status and one was a mid-70s insurance fraudster.
As a result I have now in my possession two vehicles that I have been repairing myself. They are both quite old, at 22 and 31 years old. Because these are my primary drivers I have been having to devote a lot of time to keep them on the road. That combined with my current employment has kept me far busier than I was during the pandemic and prior to the pandemic even.
That's not to say that my interests are shifting or have diminished in any way, as far back as 2015 I was a car nut in addition, and I used to hang with SiliconClassics down in his neck of the woods (hope everything is going well with you dude if you're reading this) and he is also a car nut. It just so happens that I've had to divide my time and I'm also starting to have to prepare more for the future. The last 3 years have been hard, and I've had a lot of adulting to do so I haven't had as much time to devote to my major hobbies. But I'm still just as passionate as ever. Only now I have to divide my time between fixing vehicles to keep them on the road, home renovations, trying to save money, and all of my hobbies that go with that.
