Announcement: I'm stepping away for a month.
The recent events here on IRIXNet have been frustrating to me to the absolute max; so I'm going to be stepping away from active participation for at least three weeks, probably a month or longer.

This is effective immediately, though if you require my assistance specifically I'll be able to respond to PMs; maintenance will proceed as normal, and all functionality of the site will be active. My capable colleagues Kaigan, Micrex22, Dodoid and Dexter1 will be more than happy to assist as needed with any concerns and moderation duties, and I'll be available in the case of any emergencies.

Please use report functions or DMs to any of the most active staff members to report things.

I'm the system admin of this site. Private security technician, licensed locksmith, hack of a c developer and vintage computer enthusiast.

https://contrib.irixnet.org/raion/ -- contributions and pieces that I'm working on currently.

https://codeberg.org/SolusRaion -- Code repos I control

Technical problems should be sent my way.

Hay Raion, You're a great guy, and you've single handedly done this community great service! Smile (You don't need to take a back seat on your site for ANYBODY!!!)

Don't let these useless eaters get you down! At some point they'll be worked out of society don't you worry!!! (I hate useless, stupid people and the world's full of them!!!)

And yes, I mean people like you: MJBurton and Tangiers, AS THE WORLD DOESN'T NEED PEOPLE LIKE YOU!!! (The world only needs people who contribute in a positive way!)

Just for the record, THIS IS A GREAT SITE! Biggrin

I look forward to the time when each of us has our own personal IP address (rather than our machines), linked to thumb print authentication, and/or facial recognition, so that when people log onto the internet, they can be traced and unwanted people's IP's can be permanently blocked! (effectively factoring them out of society.)

THIS WILL HAPPEN EVENTUALLY, AS THE REQUIRED TECHNOLOGIES ALREADY EXIST!!! (5G, together with the internet of things is COMING!!!)

Just for the record, I've had one of my close friends tell me, "You really terrify me, as I know that when you say something, you mean it!" (I'm not in the habit of joking, for that matter, I've never joked in my life!)

As I told you when you let us admins know yesterday, please feel free to take all the time you need, Raion. We'll take care of things here in your absence.

To the community at large: if you have any concerns about the site, please let the admin team know, either any of us individually or all of us. We're here to help and make this place the best it can be.

Probably a topic for another thread, but that'd be the end of the Internet as we know it. I wouldn't be on half the sites I'm on if I had to link my online identity with my IRL one. It's the primary reason I never signed up on Facebook (before, y'know, all the other great reasons not to cropped up.)

I value my privacy as well, but trolling like we've just seen here is the reason why such a system will be brought about. It's inevitable! (Just look at the social credit system established in China!)

You should be held accountable for what you say and do on the Internet, and be criminalised if necessary!

If only people would just behave!

Go and have a look at what 5G actually is (the full automation of everything). The world as we know it is about to change!

Oh right, just look at it. Show me where it is and I'll look at it.

Yes, look at it - the explicit and forcible linking of real-life social worth to the online mob's perception of you should be utterly terrifying to anyone who knows the first thing about people in general and the Internet specifically. Such a system is a perfect recipe for mass depression and spiked suicide rates, and I believe it's pretty much inevitable that they'll see this happen as their project unfolds and the system begins to develop emergent behaviors the way Facebook did around 2008-2012.

(Of course, it'll be months or years after that happens before we get wind of it...and they've got bigger concerns at the moment, as do the rest of us. But anybody who's paid the slightest attention to the societal fallout of "social media" should be able to read the tea leaves on this.)

I'm not saying it won't happen. It just won't be what you hope it will. It'll be much, much uglier and more horrifying - because, when you get right down to it, technology changes nothing about human nature, it just enables people - and people are why we can't have nice things.

You hit the nail on the head, people, not all people, but certain people are the problem.

As a good friend once said to me, "If all people could just live their lives with that values that we have, the world wouldn't be perfect, but it would be a much better place."

Honestly, I'm ashamed to be a human being!

@hamei - I'll happily take your word for it, seeing that you're actually living there. I can only work with the information available to me, and I suppose there's allot of propaganda and misinformation involving China. (It just goes to show how screwed up this world really is, as everyone's got their own agenda!)

What's true and what's untrue? You really can't trust the information you're presented with these days!

I honestly don't see a way forward for man. (It seems as though we've been created to fail!!!)

RE: Announcement: I'm stepping away for a month.
Yea, that is where I draw the line. I won't be participating. I don't use social media like Facebook, twitter, etc. I like the fact that I opted out of all that. A social credit system linked to online social platforms that is mandatory would suck. Would I be forced to participate? Would there be a law or would it be like you can't get a credit card or a drivers license unless you also have that other stuff. Why can't I just be left alone? How is paying over 60,000 dollars US not enough (with nothing in return) and not paying my fair share? Just like the Obama care stuff in the USA, what if I just don't want any part of the medical system and don't want to buy insurance... How is the government able to say that it is related to taxes and I am now obligated to pay for something I don't want or need? Is China not linking all of these things together and denying people travel and other things based on debts and other things the communist party deems as a negative in society? I don't know the details, only what my wife has talked about (she is from over near there). The government of the USA is so jealous of the CCP, that is exactly what they want here. Monolithic authoritarian single party control and a quasi central bank controlled "free" market.

I used to love the internet in the mid to late 90s. Early 2000s was okay and when youtube came out it was cool. It has been a slow downward spiral in my opinion. This will be my last smart phone, I am going back to a removable battery crap phone to just make calls soon. I am opting out of this nonsense. I used to be a people person when I was in my teens, very social... 25+ years in IT has sucked that from my soul and stomped it out. I am not paid for what I know or what I can do, I am paid to think so others don't have to.

on a side note, will someone PM me what happened? I am curious to know what went down.
