I have 5.3 including Indy R5000, I have 5.3 with xfs support. I wonder if I could make a netinstall that would work.

I can't help you with that CD, but you may be able to work around it by booting a CD of one of the later sets of Recommened/Required patches (or netbooting the miniroot from the patch set tardist), and install IRIX 5.3 + XFS from CD first, and before you finalize the installation install the patchset to merge R5000 support.

Alternatively, if you have an R4x00 CPU, install IRIX 5.3 + XFS first, install patches, and replace the CPU with the R5K.

I'm not promising anything but that might work.

That is a good idea. I ended up using my R4400 200 for my 5.3 install. I bet that would be the easiest to just install everything and then the R5k convert patch and put the drive into the R5k Indy.
