PowerAnimator 8.5 - Simplest possible installation instructions
I really want to install poweranimator 8.5 on my Indy R5000. What is the simplest way to go about that? Could anyone write some simple instructions? I have found a few threads on that, but they all have people rambling on and on about what the best thing to do is. Can it be simplified?

Do you have a link to what you're referring to? Usually these programs include notes inside their packages which explain how to install and use them.

It's a good idea if you're asking for a better solution for us to get an idea of what you're struggling with.

It is a tricky little process but not that tricky.

The actual install of the software on your hard drive into the Irix OS can be achieved two different ways.

1. Use the little install program that comes with it.
2. Drag and drop the main software package into the software manager.

The next part is the one that trips people up which is getting the license setup correctly.

You need a few items to make it work.

The license needs your lmhost number

go to a terminal and type "lmhostid"

The output should look like this.

lmhostid - Copyright © 1989, 1990 Highland Software, Inc.
The FLEXlm host ID of this machine is "1200abcd"

Then it needs you to replace the supplied aw.dat lmhost number with the number your unique SGI machine has like the part above would be "1200abcd".

Then run that new aw.dat through a gen. Some have win.exe and some are native SGI.

I don't have access to my SGI at the moment. One has an 8.5 the win machine I have does PA 9.0

You can get 9.0 from my ftp if you like.

That has some instructions in it to setup lic correctly too.

The 8.5 method is a little more straight forward. It should have an included file that has the example gen that you input your lmhost into. Then run the gen using the command in the readme and it should spit out a new aw.dat. You can place this manually OR you can simply copy paste the long sequence of numbers it creates in the new dat file into the A|W input window upon PA start.

Thanks for the reply. It helps a lot.
I already have Maya 3.0, Maya 6.5, and Alias Studio 11.0 installed on the Indy. Would the license file for those work for PowerAnimator? If so I'll just use that.
