GIMP on IRIX
Where can you download the latest version of GIMP that was ported to IRIX? I remember seeing something about it on Nekochan. Does anybody have the link? Also... advice on installing it would be greatly appreciated.

RE: GIMP on IRIX
Hey... Does anyone know if GAP (Gimp Animation Package) Will work with the Nekoware version of GIMP on an Indy? I wanted to use TOONZ for inking and painting animation but nobody seems to know if there's any way of getting a license for that. So I was wondering if GAP would be a better alternative.

Also... How do you install this? I tried installing it using the program manager but it wouldn't open.

Software Manager requires tardists, and those are nontrivial to make, but I like them for some reason.

That being said I'm not finding a lot of documentation. If it's a plug-in that requires compilation, probably will require you to compile it.

RE: GIMP on IRIX
There is a 2.4.0 version of GAP that ought to work with GIMP 2.4.6 from Nekoware, if it can be compiled on IRIX.  But as Raion correctly guessed, it is distributed as source and needs to be compiled.  Software Manager certainly can't install it.

Whether or not it will actually build on IRIX is another question entirely.  A quick glance suggests that it assumes GCC 3 is being used, so it might compile on IRIX if you pull all the prerequisites from Nekoware and you have the right compiler.

I'm not a real experienced IRIX user. I just started back in February. I actually meant how do you install GIMP not GAP. I'll deal with GAP once I have GIMP up and running. Also... How would I pull the prerequisites from nekoware and compile the source version of GAP? What would that entail?

What have you tried so far?  What error messages did you get?  I'm not sure exactly what you need help with....

I've been a little busy with other stuff lately, but I had a chance to look at Nekoware's GIMP package yesterday.  It's a little broken in that it requires an older version of the neko_lcms package from the "obsolete" directory.  It won't work with neko_lcms-2.1 from "current".  Which means GIMP conflicts with ImageMagick from "current" since that requires the later neko_lcms package.  So be sure to get the right neko_lcms package and don't also try to install ImageMagick (or install an older version of it, too). That's the only potentially problematic thing I see at the moment (compared to any other Nekoware package).

RE: GIMP on IRIX
I was in contact with the Cinepaint devs and I learned that they'll be bumping an update soon AND Cinepaint2 will migrate to FLTK - that makes it much easier to keep it running on IRIX!

Thank the gods. Some good news for once.

Hey I just saw this. That's excellent news. That should probably be in the Cinepaint thread, but nonetheless, glad to hear. I've been doing a TON of hand-drawn animation for the pilot episode of a new netflix cartoon. I have an Indy R5000 and I was hoping to install Cinepaint to do dynamic lighting on the animation when it comes time to color it. Cinepaint was used for dynamic lighting in movies such as Stuart Little, Spy Kids, the first two Harry Potter films, and many other early 2000's movies. The 2019 film Klaus was heavily acclaimed for its use of such lighting, and they've said that no other film has ever used it. They developed their own proprietary software for doing that, and they won awards for it. They used Cinepaint to do that same thing with live action footage, so there's no doubt that it will work with animation too. I think it would be kinda cool if we had a new netflix series that was developed on irix, so Cinepaint 2 should come in handy.
